Who's behind this

Would You Rather Online is published and edited by Joan Ramos, who runs FriendlyApps, an independent publisher of free web tools and reference sites. Joan Ramos is responsible for what goes on this site: the tools, the writing, the fact-checking and the corrections.

The person who builds a page is the same person who looks after it afterwards — there's no conveyor belt handing work off to strangers. How a page gets made

1. We work out what the tool actually has to do. Before anything gets built, we pin down the real question someone's trying to answer — and what a right answer would even look like.
2. We check the logic against sources we trust. Where a tool leans on a formula, a rule or a published standard, we go to the source rather than copying what other websites say. Where experts disagree, we tell you on the page instead of quietly picking a side.
3. We test it by actually using it. Every tool gets run through the situations it'll really meet, including the awkward ones. Anything printable gets printed on real paper before it goes anywhere near the site.
4. We write it in plain language. If a sentence needs reading twice, it gets rewritten.
5. We keep it current. Pages get revisited when the facts behind them change, and anything where the date matters gets dated.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes — everyone does. When we do, we fix the page rather than quietly deleting it, and if the fix changes an answer we'll say what changed. If you've spotted a mistake, whether it's a wrong number, a result that looks off, or an instruction that just doesn't work, please tell us at [email protected] or through the contact page. Corrections jump the queue, and a real person reads every message.

Nobody pays us to say anything

Some pages carry affiliate links, which may earn a small commission if you buy through them. No affiliate partner or sponsor gets to influence what we write, what a tool tells you, or what gets recommended. We don't take payment for a mention or a link, and we don't publish anything written by somebody else in exchange for placement.

If we recommend a product, it's because we think it suits the job. And if we're not sure about something, we'll say we're not sure rather than writing carefully around it.

What we won't do

• Publish a number we can't stand behind.
• Pad a page out to make it look more thorough than it is.
• Dress up a guess as a fact.
• Let anyone pay to change an answer.
